market notes
Our crops change with the seasons and vary with growing conditions- That’s the natural way!
A Sampling of What We Grow
Certified Organic assures that synthetic
pesticides and bioengineered (GMO) seeds
are NEVER used on our farm.
Our Way
No-till and Low Till: By minimizing tilling, we promote soil health, reduce water and fertilizer usage. This practice helps prevent soil runoff into streams, preserves soil nutrients, and improves nutrient uptake for plants by maintaining soil structure.
Soil Blocking: For transplants we use soil blocks made here on the farm without the use of plastic.
Drip irrigation and micro irrigation: Conserves water and minimizes run-off.
Shallow weeding: Shallow weeding disturbs only the first half inch of soil which prevents disturbance of the soil structure.
Crop Rotation: Crops rotate on a 3 year cycle to mitigate diseases and pests.
Integrated pest management: Beneficial insects help keep the bad bugs away.
Cover Cropping and Roller Crimping: Cover crops are used to keep soil from being exposed and being washed away in rain or blown away by wind. Roller Crimping cover crops is used to create a pre-mulched bed for planting transplants.
Beneficial Insect Habitat: Food for pollinators is important so many of our flowers do double duty creating a habitat for beneficial insects who help contain pest populations.
Honey Bees: We maintain honey bees to help with pollination of our crops.
Our growing methods are unique and go beyond organic standards.
Our Roots
Daisy Branch Farm launched its operation in 2024, but our story begins long before.
Daisy Branch Farm is the offspring of Three Sisters Farm and is operated by former partner of Three Sisters Farm, Mary Connor and her husband Barry Connor.
The farm is located on property held in our family since 1848. The name of our farm pays homage to Daisy Porcher Pinckney whose family branches have worked the same land for almost two centuries.
The Property, know as Calhoun Plantation, in turn passed to Daisy and Eustace Pinckney’s son Dessie and his wife, Olive who also farmed here. Following their deaths, it then passed to daughter Mary O and her husband Ed Merrick.
In 2004, working with the Trust for Public Lands and Beaufort County, a conservation easement was granted to the Beaufort County Open Land Trust ensuring that the property will be preserved for future generations and never commercially developed.
The properties in the conservation easement are home now to three farm operations-Daisy Branch Farm Slow Road Farm and UPick Daffodils.
OUR EGGS
Our hens enjoy their days on pasture before being secured in portable houses in the evening. These houses are moved around the 6-acre field. Livestock guardian dogs Ginger and Soco carefully monitor them throughout the day. The chickens feed on grasses, weeds, and bugs, and receive additional mash and grain. We also partner with a nearby beer brewery to feed our hens spent brew grain, preventing it from ending up in landfills.
